Activities in Spetses
A car-free island, Spetses lends itself to active leisure — from walks along the 19 trails of the "Greek Paths of Culture" network, to the major annual sporting events that have established themselves internationally.
What to do
Walking trails
The "Greek Paths of Culture" programme, in cooperation with ELLET and the Anargyrios & Korgialenios School of Spetses (AKSS), provides Spetses with a network of 19 routes covering a total of 65 kilometres. The routes start either from the town or from the perimeter road and reach the main points of the central ridgeline (Ktima Chara, Synantisi Kynigon, Profitis Ilias, Rigani).
Cycling
The ideal way to explore Spetses is by bicycle. The 25-kilometre perimeter road circles the entire island and offers a varied terrain of moderate difficulty, with spectacular views over the Argolic Gulf. Many bicycle rental shops are available in the town.
Sea-based activities
Swimming, sailing, and kayaking are the main sea-based activities. Those with their own vessel can explore the more remote bays (Tsakonas, the smaller Zogeria). The Spetses area connects easily with Porto Heli, Ermioni, and Monemvasia. Note: anchoring along the pine trees of the coastline is not permitted.
Nightlife and dining
Spetses' nightlife is lively and concentrated mainly at the Old Harbour, but can begin with a drink in the town or in the alleyways towards Agios Mamas. The journey from one to the other is on foot or by horse carriage.
