Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta

Held every **June** in Spetses, with over **75 boats** and **400 crew members** participating from Greece and abroad.

The institution

The Spetses regatta of classic and traditional boats stands out on the international nautical calendar:

- Founded in 2011 by the Yacht Club of Greece.
- Held every June in Spetses.
- The first race of its kind in Greece, now established in the international Mediterranean calendar.

The races

The event includes different types of sailing races:

- Coastal races along the shores of the Peloponnese and Spetses.
- Classic yachts, traditional boats and lateen-rigged boats compete in the same event.
- Multi-day schedule with separate categories per boat type.

Participation

The event draws extensive Greek and international participation:

- Over 75 boats participate annually.
- More than 400 crew members take part.
- International participation from Greece and abroad.

Shipbuilding heritage

The race showcases Greek and international classic shipbuilding heritage:

- Boats from the historic shipyards of Spetses, Piraeus, Syros and Perama participate.
- Famous Greek vessels including Faneromeni, Panagia of Tinos, Alkyoni, Aeolos Spetson, Stratis and Afroessa take part in the races.
- International classic yachts have also competed, including Puritan (1930) and Cassiopeia (1946).

Organization

The event is organized through cooperation between multiple bodies:

- Organized by the Yacht Club of Greece.
- Under the auspices of the Municipality of Spetses.
- With the support of the Spetses Yacht Club.

Race Categories


  • Classic boats

    Classic yachts, both Greek and international, representing the European design tradition of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

  • Traditional boats

    Traditional wooden boats built in Greek shipyards — trechantiria, varkalades and other historic types from the Aegean and Ionian seas.

  • Lateen-rigged boats

    Boats rigged with the lateen sail, the oldest form of triangular rigging in the Mediterranean, racing in their own dedicated category.
